Pharyngeal Leiomyosarcoma With Fever of Unknown Origin

TUMORS OF SMOOTH muscle origin are extremely rare in the regions of the pharynx and upper respiratory tract. No record of a leiomyosarcoma in the posterior region of the pharynx or in the hypopharynx could be found on review of the literature. The present case is thought to represent such a tumor. Because of the rarity of this lesion, as well as the unusual presenting symptom of fever of unknown origin and the clinical course of recurrent chills and fever, this case is presented. Report of a Case Case History .—The patient, a 39-year-old white office supervisor, was in good health until nine months prior to admission, when he noted the gradual onset of weakness and fatigue.
