A Low-Profile and Wideband Dual-Mode MIMO Antenna For Diversity Applications

2019
A low-profile and wideband dual-port dual-mode MIMO antenna with pattern diversity is presented, which covers a wide bandwidth encompassing the 5G and WIFI bands around 5 GHz. The two ports of the antenna are responsible for providing the vertically- and horizontally-polarized patterns, respectively. The working principle of the proposed antenna is illustrated, with corresponding resonant modes identified. A prototype, with a profile of 0.09λ 0 , is fabricated and characterized for experimental verification. The measured S 11 < −10 dB bandwidths for both modes are 1140 MHz (22.8%) and 700 MHz (14%), respectively, while the isolation between ports is higher than 16.5 dB. The measured radiation patterns also agree well with simulation predictions and confirm the diversity performance, indicating that the proposed antenna can be well applied in MIMO systems.
