A new nor-triterpenoid, triptolactone, with a novel carbon skeleton from Tripterigium wilfordii

Abstract A nortriterpenoid with a novel carbon skeleton, designated triptolactone, closely related to D:A-friedo-24-noroleanane triterpenoid has been isolated from the root bark of Tripterigium wilfordii . The structure was established by spectroscopic studies and X-ray crystallography.
