Critical state model: comparison of transverse and elongated geometries

Abstract Analytic solutions were recently published for the magnetic properties of a thin-film disc and a strip, transverse to an applied field, and with field-independent critical current density J c . Someof the predicted properties are shown to be similar to those of bulk samples, suitably scaled, but extra caution is required in extracting J c values from magnetisation curves and AC susceptibilities.
