Recent Advances in Supercapacitors with Nanocomposite Electrodes

2010
The research on supercapacitors at the University of Nottingham has been sponsored by the E.ON AG (2007 International Research Award Energy Storage) to develop prototype commercial supercapacitors with high energy storage capacities. We hereby report: i. the large scale electrode fabrication, including cast evaporation, rolling, screen printing and die pressing; ii. unit cell supercapacitor fabrication, such as PPY/CNT (+) | KCl (3.0 mol L) | Monarch 1300 (-) with good cycling stability, and CNTs/MnO2 (+) | Na2SO4 (1.0 mol L) | CNTs/SnO2 (-) with a high cell voltage of 1.7 V; iii. bipolar supercapacitor stack design [5] and fabrication; iv. asymmetrical supercapacitor cell voltage and energy density optimisation
