The TCV Vacuum Vessel: Design and Construction

The various problems encountered during the design and the construction phases of the TCV vacuum vessel are described. The difficulties related to the large forces on the all-welded continuous vessel and the design of the gas heating system are shown. In addition, the development and testing of modified Conflat vacuum flanges withstanding high temperature thermal cycling is reported. Finally the specific problems encountered during the manufacturing of the vessel are underlined.
