Characterization of Particle Size Distribution of Coal-water Slurries With Non-destructive Ultrasonic Method

2011
For studying the on-line measurement of particle size distribution(PSD) in coal-water slurries, theoretical and experimental investigations were implemented based on ultrasonic attenuation spectrum approach(UAS).ECAH and multiple scattering models were combined to describe the transmission process in highly concentrated slurries, and then the inverse algorithm of particle size distributions was put forward using optimum regularization technique(ORT).In experiment,a couple of 5MHz broad-frequency ultrasonic transducers were employed in the destructive and non-destructive testing(NDT),in which an novel data processing method based on exponential fit was developed in NDT.The measurement and analysis illustrate that the destructive method can be completely replaced by NDT.Moreover, the UAS approach has revealed a good consistence with optical microscope analysis, which indicates that the measured PSD of coal-water slurries by UAS is feasible and reliable.
