The effect of halide ions on the dissolution of nickel

2004
Anodic dissolution behaviour of nickel in mono-, di- and trichloroacetic acids and the accelerating effect of Cl - . Br and I - and the dissolution of nickel by mono-, di- and lrichloroacclic acids has been investigated bymeasuring potentials of nickel electrodes (versus SCF) at different time intervals. The addition of Cl - . Br - and I - brings about considerable shift of potential. The potential - time measurements and potentiodynamic anodic polarization measurements show that the dissolution rate qf nickel in chloroacetic acids solutions increases by the addition of halide ions in the order CI - > Br > I - . The magnitude of accelerative effect increases by increasing the halide ion concentration.
