Solitary intracranial plasmacytoma presenting as lateral rectus palsy: Report of a case and review of neuro-ophthalmic manifestations of plasmacytoma

1990
A 65-year-old man presented with an isolated lateral rectus palsy. Neuroradiological studies were negative initially. The abduction deficit subsequently became bilateral and reinvestigation showed a mass centred on the pituitary fossa. Trans-sphenoidal biopsy revealed a plasmacytoma. This presentation of plasmacytoma has not previously been reported. The case also emphasizes the importance of re-investigation of a persistent abduction deficit.
