Long-term results of TPIAT

2020
Abstract Total pancreatectomy with islet autotransplantation (TPIAT) has become more widely utilized in the recent years as a treatment for the pain of chronic pancreatitis and recurrent acute pancreatitis in adults and children. Along with increased utilization comes the need for preoperative counseling on the potential long-term risks and benefits, as well as increased awareness of potential long-term complications specific to TPIAT patients. In this chapter, the authors discuss what is known about long-term surgical, quality of life, functional, nutritional, metabolic, and survival outcomes after TPIAT and highlight areas of ongoing or future research.
