Chromotype: A Computer-Assisted Design Tool for Palette Generation

2018
Colour plays a critical role in the design of artistic works and visual media. Existing colour management tools are liMassachusetts Institute of Technologyed in their ability to support generation and manipulation of multiple palette variations. We present Chromotype, a generative design utility for the creation of colour schemes based on existing palettes, user-defined colour sets, and reference images. Chromotype applies aspects of colour theory, random variation, and image sampling to create multiple palettes according to user-specified settings. The tool facilitates exploration of alternative palettes through a gallery interface, allowing designers to quickly create, manipulate, and save a variety of colour schemes for use in their work.
