Reporting and acting on suspicions of modern slavery by healthcare professionals is not straightforward.12 Each national setting has statutory duties and a range of possible routes to less formal—and more variable—advice, guidance, and support. Current legislation in the United Kingdom does not specifically give healthcare professionals a duty to notify the authorities of potential cases of modern slavery (Modern Slavery Act 2015, chapter 30, part 5, section 32).
