Quantitative Study on Adsorption and Regeneration Characteristics of Activated Coke using Equivalent Characteristic Spectrum Analysis

2019
As activated coke can adsorb exhaust gases from steelmaking kilns, research on its adsorption and regeneration characteristics is unknown but significant. In this study, activated coke was heated in three different atmospheres of O2-Ar, Ar, CO2-Ar, and investigated by equivalent characteristic spectrum analysis based on TG-MS system. The used activated coke adsorbed 27.85% of the exhaust gases, and the adsorbed gases comprised 64.30% moisture, 22.52% SO2, 12.36% CO2 and 0.83% NO. When the temperature of regeneration ranged from 680 to 730 °C, the gasification reaction only consumed a small amount of unburned carbon. The adsorbed gases were completely discharged, and the adsorption capacity of the activated coke was enhanced after regeneration. Low-concentration CO2 could strengthen the adsorption capacity of the activated coke after regeneration.
