FACIAL HEMIHYPERPLASIA ASSOCIATED WITH MUCOSA NEUROMA IN A PEDIATRIC PATIENT

2020
An 8-year-old female patient attended the stomatology service with her mother, who reported as the main complaint: "lump in the tongue and her lips are swollen." During the history of the current illness, she said that 5 years ago an increased volume appeared on the face, lips, and tongue of the child. Extraoral examination showed facial asymmetry in middle and lower third of the right side face. On intrabuccal examination, the patient presented an increased volume in right side mandible with hard consistency, exhibited unilateral macroglossia with nodular normochromic lesions, papillary surface, irregular, sessile, fixed, located at the border and right tongue apex. The clinical hypotheses were facial hemihyperplasia and neurofibroma. An excisional biopsy of the tongue lesion was performed with the histologic diagnosis of mucosal neuroma. Computed tomography and panoramic radiography were used to aid in the final diagnosis of facial hemihyperplasia. The patient is being followed up with a multidisciplinary team.
