We propose a novel regulated cascode (RGC) trans-impedance amplifier (TIA) with characteristics of low-power, low-noise, wide input range and small size. The RGC TIA was designed and implemented using Samsung 0.18 ㎛ CMOS technology for optical bio-sensor system. The RGC TIA is simply composed of resistors for bias regulation and local feedback stage. The resistors for bias is the replacement of the current source in conventional advanced common gate TIA. The RGC TIA dissipates a total power of 2.8 ㎽ and has Gain of 37.3 ㏈ and 3-㏈ bandwidth of 500 ㎒. The chip size is 62 ㎛ × 47 ㎛.
