Pituitary or Suprasellar Lesions

2021
Tumors in the pituitary can be classified as intra-, supra-, para-, or retrosellar (Calao, Endotext. MDText.com, Inc., South Dartmouth, 2000). Intrasellar tumors are mostly pituitary adenomas and suprasellar tumors are tumors such as craniopharyngiomas, germinomas, Langerhans cell histiocytosis, dermoid cyst, and epidermoid cyst. The vast majority of pituitary tumors are relatively benign in pathology; treatment may be complicated by high surgical morbidity resulting from damage to the hypothalamic–pituitary axis (McCrea et al, J Child Neurol 31:1367–76, 2016).
