Magnetic Perturbation Inspection of Artillery Projectiles.

Abstract : The objectives of this research were to determine feasibility for the application of magnetic perturbation inspection methods to interior and exterior surfaces of artillery projectiles casings. Inspections were performed on ten (10) projectiles. Subsequent metallurgical sectioning at seven (7) magnetically determined sites confirmed flaws at all selected locations. Feasibility of method was demonstrated. Basic conceptual design of a prototype inspection device is included. (Author)
