AgBi3I10 rudorffite for photovoltaic application

2020
Abstract In order to achieve low-cost and high photoelectric conversion efficiency, emerging solar cell technologies have attracted significant attention. The non-toxic and environmentally stable silver bismuth iodine compounds are currently regarded as promising photovoltaic candidates. Herein, we report a new type rudorffite material AgBi3I10 featuring with edge-shared [AgI6] and [BiI6] and an optical band gap of 1.8 eV for solar cell application. A photoelectric conversion efficiency of 2.73% with good air stability under standard illumination test conditions in air can be achieved for a solar cell using AgBi3I10 in combination with a TiO2/Al2O3/NiO/carbon framework. This work highlights new direction for further development of materials for non-toxic and stable photovoltaic applications.
