Precipitation and crystal growth of cadmium hydroxide

Abstract The preliminary results of an experimental study on Cd(OH)2 precipitation kinetics are discussed. Precipitation kinetics has been studied in terms of nucleation and crystal growth rates, determined through the particle population balance of a CSTR reactor at steady state conditions. In agreement with nucleation theory, nucleation rate is highly dependent on the supersaturation of the solution. A marked inhibiting effect is noted when Cd(OH)2 precipitation occurs in the presence of citric acid.
