A Novel and Easy Two‐Step, Microwave‐Assisted Method for the Synthesis of Halophenyl Pyrrolo[2,3‐b]quinoxalines via Their Pyrrolo Precursors. Evaluation of Their Bioactivity.

In a one-pot three-component reaction, 4-halobenzaldehydes are condensed with MeNH2 and sodium diethyloxalacetate to 2,3-dioxo-5-halophenylpyrrolo derivatives (III) which are then reacted with o-phenylenediamine to form either non-aromatized or aromatized halophenyl-pyrrolo[2,3-b]quinoxalines [(VI) or (VII), resp.].
