Participation of women in forestry and livestock activities in the arid region of India

A study on the participation on the women in forestry and livestock activities in the arid region of India was undertaken with special reference to nine villages of Jaisalmer district in Western Rajasthan. Households were selected on random sampling method. The survey was carried out with an objective to study women participation in agricultural, forestry, livestock, economic activities and household activities. Study reveals that women participation in livestock activities is between 60 and 80% whereas, in household activities contribution is almost 100 per cent. It was found that financial matters (i.e marketing and procurement of seeds / animals etc) are solely managed by the male members of the society. The research paper deals with the contribution of women in agricultural, forestry and household activities.
