A method and microscope for imaging a sample volume

describes a method for the microscopic imaging of a volume of sample (16), in which a microscope objective (12) is focussed onto at least two reference planes in sequence, located within the volume of sample (16) along the optical axis (O) of the microscope objective (12) in different volume sample depths are; for each reference plane, a reference setting of a correction term (18) is determined at which a dependent of the volume of sample depth imaging errors by the correction term (18) is corrected; based on the determined reference settings for at least one target level in the volume of sample a target setting for the correction term (18) is determined, in which the occurring in the volume of sample depth of the target plane imaging errors by the correction term (18) is corrected; and for imaging the sample volume (16) focuses the microscope objective (12) on the target plane and the correction term (18) is brought into the target setting.
