Round Ligament Varicosities Mimicking Inguinal Hernia During Pregnancy

2009
nternationally of RLV during pregnancy reported in the ast 53 years. In comparison, the prevalence of inguinal ernia in pregnancy has been more substantially estabished at about 1:2,000. Every patient included in our tudy had a reducible hernia on examination during pregancy. Each patient was also examined postpartum to conirm the diagnosis of hernia before operation. The clinical iagnosis of hernia was correct in all patients in our series, nd all were found to have a hernia sac at the time of peration. With a careful physical examination to facilitate iagnosis, our recommendation for “watchful waiting” in hese patients is a prudent and safe approach, as supported y our series. No patients were subjected to an unnecessary erniorrhaphy. It is noted, however, to include RLV in the xpanded differential diagnosis of these patients.
