Carney complex caused by novel de novo genetic mutation

2017
Myxomas, the commonest of the clinically detected primary cardiac tumors, usually occur sporadically. About 7% of cardiac myxomas occur in a familial setting and are found at younger age with tendency for recurrence. They are also sometimes associated with extracardiac tumors, constituting the Carney complex. We report multi-centric recurrent myxomas in a young male with Carney complex, which developed as a result of hitherto unreported de novo genetic mutation. With this case, we wish to emphasize the need for timely recognition of Carney complex and regular follow-up, so that complications, including sudden deaths, can be prevented.
