Performance Evaluation of Sidewall Long-Throw Sprinklers at Height

2006
Atriums are commonly built in big buildings in the Far East. There, fire safety is a concern and smoke extraction system is identified to be essential. To ensure satisfactory operation, appropriate fire suppression systems must be installed to control the fire. A possible candidate is sidewall long-throw sprinklers, suggested to be installed at height up to 14.5 m in a new shopping mall project. In this paper, a series of tests to demonstrate the performance on water coverage will be reported. The water discharge density received in the protected area was measured and then assessed for compliance with the design guides. Whether the discharged sprinkler water spray can control a testing wood crib fire will also be demonstrated.
