Relevancia del concepto embodiment en el ámbito sanitario

espanolIntroduccion: La conexion entre mente y cuerpo tiene un nombre: Embodiment. Este se trata de un aspecto inherente al ser humano asociado empiricamente a la salud y el bienestar. Los profesionales sanitarios deberian familiarizarse con la relevancia de dicho concepto a fin de promover la salud de la poblacion. Objetivo: Conocer la importancia del concepto embodiment en el ambito sanitario. Metodologia: Revision bibliografica realizada en abril de 2018. Se consultaron las bases de datos biomedicas: CINAHL, PubMed y Proquest. Los criterios de inclusion definidos para la busqueda fueron: (1) articulos cientificos (2) en ingles y espanol, (3) publicados en revistas cientificas, (4) entre 2013 y 2018. Resultados: El concepto embodiment consiste en vivir con y a traves del cuerpo el conjunto de emociones y sensaciones que experimentamos a lo largo de la vida. Dicho concepto toma especial relevancia en aquellas profesiones cuya praxis gira entorno al cuerpo como es el caso de las vinculadas a los servicios sanitarios. Actualmente, se han realizado investigaciones sobre la relacion entre embodiment y otros procesos asistenciales como dolor cronico, cancer de mama, obesidad y embarazo. Estas senalan la importancia de dicho concepto en la practica profesional enfermera y de fisioterapeutas dada la positiva relacion que conlleva con los resultados de salud. Conclusion: Los profesionales sanitarios son responsables de prestar una atencion integral centrada en el paciente, lo que requiere introducir el concepto embodiment en su ejercicio profesional para promover un equilibrio mente-cuerpo que resulte positivo para la salud de la poblacion. EnglishIntroduction: The connection between mind and body has a name: Embodiment. This is an aspect inherent to the human being empirically associated with health and well-being. Health professionals should become familiar with the relevance of this concept in order to promote the health of the population. Objective: To know the importance of the embodiment concept in the healthcare context. Methodology: Literature review made in April 2018. The biomedical databases were consulted: CINAHL, PubMed and Proquest. The inclusion criteria defined for the search were: (1) scientific articles (2) in English and Spanish, (3) published in scientific journals, (4) between 2013 and 2018. Results: The embodiment concept consists of living with and through the body the set of emotions and sensations that we experience throughout life. This concept takes special relevance in those professions whose practice revolves around the body as is the case of those linked to health services. Currently, research has been conducted on the relationship between embodiment and other care processes such as chronic pain, breast cancer, obesity and pregnancy. These indicate the importance of this concept in nursing professional practice and physiotherapists given the positive relationship that it entails with health outcomes. Conclusion: Health professionals are responsible for providing comprehensive care centered on the patient, which requires introducing the concept embodiment in their professional practice to promote a mind-body balance that is positive for the health of the population.
