A High Boost Bi-directional Z-Source Inverter with Active Switched Inductor Cells

2020
The conventional Z-Source inverter (ZSI) has the following disadvantages: unidirectional power flow, presence of undesirable mode operation, and low boost factor. To solve aforementioned shortcomings, an enhanced-boost bi-directional ZSI with novel active switched inductor (SL) cells (named as Active-SLs ZSI) is proposed. The proposed active SL cell replaces three diodes in the conventional SL cell of the ZSI with two capacitors and one active switch, and the Z-Source Network (ZSN) diode is also replaced by an active switch, thus allowing bio-directional power flow and achieving higher boost factor. Both simulation and experimental results validate theoretical analysis of the proposed Active-SLs ZSI.
