Chapter Six. Proclus’ Commentary On The Cratylus (III): Learning From Divine Names

In this chapter, Proclus' treatment of the etymological section of the Cratylus will be dealt with.Therefore, this chapter will focus on Proclus' ideas about divine names. As Proclus himself remarks,this chapter is informed by the Cratylus.This subject had already been studied already in the chapter of the Platonic Theology when Proclus' comparison of divine names to divine statues had been analysed. Proclus assumes that this discussion to be necessary preliminary information in order to fully appreciates Socrates' discussion of the name of Zeus in the Cratylus.
