A CASE OF RETOROPERITONEAL SEROUS CYST WITH HIGH LEVEL OF TUMOR MARKAR IN THE CYST FLUID

1997
Cysts arising in the retropeitoneum are relatively rate, espesially serous cyst of retroperitoneum. Only 47 cases of retroperitoneal cyst including ours have been reported in Japan. A 50-year-old woman was adomitted to the hospital because of a left abdominal tumor which had been pointed out at another hospital but left without any treatment for a while until the tumor became palpable. It was diagnosed as retroperitoneal cyst by ultrasonography and CT. Operation was performed. The resected cyst contained 800g seroum. The cyst wall was mede up of single layer of cylindrical cell and the fluid in the cyst was yellowish pellucid seroum. We diagnosed it as retroperitoneal serous cyst. Biochemical analysis of the cystic fluid revealed increased levels of CEA and CA19-9. No previous cases seen in the Japanese literature have revealed increases in the tumor marker in the cytic fluid, in that this case appears rare.
