EDUCAÇÃO AMBIENTAL NO COMBATE AO COMÉRCIO ILEGAL DA AVIFAUNA SILVESTRE EM SERGIPE

This article presents the results of a University extension project which had the goal of increasing the awareness of the inhabitants from Sergipe State about the negative impacts of the local illegal wild birds traffic, which threatens the survival of species. Speeches were held in school in addition to radio interviews and leaflets distributions in residential neighborhoods, schools and shopping malls in the major cities of Sergipe State. Some of the results achieved in this work were reduction of wild birds marketing in open markets, refusal of pet shops to sell cages for wild birds, and the release of wild birds by outlaw breeders.
