The invention relates to a lubricating oil composition for internal combustion engines, characterized in that it comprises (A) a major amount of oil of lubricating viscosity and minor amounts of (B) at least one composition based on a carboxylic acid derivative, which is obtained by reacting at least one substituted succinic acylating agent of from about 0.70 equivalent up to less than one equivalent, per equivalent of acylating agent, of at least one amine characterized by the presence within its structure of at least one radical HN <, wherein said substituted succinic acylating agent consists of substituent groups and succinic groups wherein the substituent groups are derived from a polyalkene and (C) at least one metal salt of a dihydrocarbyl dithiophosphoric acid.
