Synthesis of [4-14C]Theophylline

The synthesis of [4-14C]theophylline is presented with the radiolabel introduced in the first step of the procedure. The label is carried stoichiometrically to theophylline, and yields are satisfactory. The position of the label at position 4 of the purine ring is attractive for discerning metabolic pathways of the drug.
