Considering research: Choosing an appropriate research design

2014
Research-based evidence can be an invaluable resource for tertiary learning advisors wishing to defend or extend their contribution to student learning. The main hurdles we face are practicality and relevance: how can we fit research projects in alongside our already busy and under-resourced work? And how can we find the right form of research for our unique circumstances? For many tertiary learning advisors the solution has been to find the best fit from a range of qualitative approaches. This workshop introduces key aspects of five different approaches and includes discussion of personal experiences and realistic scenarios. The aim is to provide encouragement and practical tips for colleagues which they can use in their own research projects – big or small.
