The author presents seven pieces of simple management wisdom which he believes are most lacking in engineering managers, whose technical competence is usually unquestionable. The first point is to have a clear marketing strategy, this includes advertising versus public relations, exporting, and commission agents versus salaried sales force. The other two points discussed in this part of the article are setting a realistic profit objective and making a credible business plan.
