RANS Calculations of the Flow Past Inclined Propellers

Abstract : The flow code ANSYS CFX has been used to calculate the flow around two model propellers, DTMB P4679 and DTMB P4718, operating with a 7.5 shaft inclination. Pressures on the face and back of the blades have been compared with measured values. The predictions agree well with measured average pressures and in the amplitude of the variations in pressure. Predictions of the phase of the pressure variations are not as good. The ANSYS CFX predictions also compare favourably with the predictions of panel methods, especially with regard to the amplitude of the pressure variations.
