Tests of a copper sampling calorimeter with streamer tube readout

Abstract A hadron calorimeter consisting of Cu absorbers and streamer tube readout planes has been tested with electrons between 1 and 4 GeV and pions between 1.5 and 35 GeV. Results are given for the response, energy resolution and dependence on sampling thickness. Monte Carlo simulations show good agreement with the observed shower characteristics.
