Rotary/drag bit with optimised secondary/backup cutters

A rotary bit (10) has a first set of cutting elements (30) and a second set of trailing cutter elements (130) adjacent the first set (30). The second set of cutter elements (130) project transversely to the direction of bit rotation. The second set of cutter elements (130) have a relatively thick superabrasive table (134) configured to cut a formation with a cutting edge (146) located between a rake face (140) at the side of the superabrasive table (134) and an end face thereof.
