An Approach to an Intelligent Manufacturing System Using a Production Model

Abstract This Paper proposes a production model based approach to develop an Intelligent Manufacturing System(IMS). The production model transforms into an adaptive production model by aquiring manufacturing environment information and production case data. This model is composed of five knowledge bases to describe generic function knowledge for domain of production and the acquired information from a user. We introduce a Knowledge Primitive to construct the production model and to transform it into the adaptive model actively. The knowledge primitive consists of a knowledge feature part and a knowledge manipulation part. We discuss the structure of each part and the active functions of the knowledge primitive. A prototype IMS is also described.
