[Diastematomyelia. Study of 69 cases (author's transl)].

1982
: We wish to share our experience in the study of 69 cases of diastematomyelia in children. Our definition is very restrictive. There is an important female predominance noted (3.6:1) Patients usually consult for orthopedic problems. Skin lesions often associated with this condition, lead to radiological investigation, especially if there are also orthopedic and/or neurological problems. Neurological and sphingteral impairments were present mainly in our elderly patients. Myelogram with a liposoluble substance has been helpful in allowing us to propose surgery in most cases. Post-surgery complications are minimized if synthetic materials are avoided for duroplasty. Post-operative results are satisfactory and we recommend surgery for preventive more than curative reasons.
