SIMULTANEOUS MEASUREMENTS OF STRESS AND DISTORTION OF THE CERAMIC-METAL JOINTS BY SCANNING ACOUSTIC MICROSCOPY

1992
Abstract Simultaneous measurements of stress and distortion of ceramic-metal joints were investigated using the scanning acoustic microscopy. The principle of the methodology is the measurement of the X-Z image, which is obtained by the synchronized movement of an acoustic lens in both the X- and Z-directions. This paper details the measurment and analytical procedures and provides results for silicon nitride ceramic-nickel joints, which were subjected to thermal cycles between room temperature and 1073K.
