Synthesis and fluorescence studies of Eu3+-doped SrAl12O19 phosphor

2019
Abstract Preparation of Eu 3+ doped SrAl 12 O 19 phosphor (SrAl 12 O 19 :Eu 3+ ) using the sol-gel method is described. The effect of the initial Eu/Sr atomic ratio and the reaction temperature on the fluorescence properties of SrAl 12 O 19 :Eu 3+ was investigated. Powder X-ray diffraction was used to characterize the synthesized products and the optical properties were studied by photoluminescence spectrum. From the obtained phosphor, red luminescence resulting from the 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 transition of the Eu 3+ ion as the luminescence center was confirmed. The luminescence properties of SrAl 12 O 19 :Eu 3+ have been investigated by different initial Eu/Sr atomic ratio and optimum atomic ratio of as synthesized phosphors was 0.04. The host crystal synthesized at under 1000℃ was amorphous and at 1100℃ showed crystalline. From the results of EDX, it was confirmed that each element was uniformly dispersed in SrAl 12 O 19 :Eu 3+ . In addition, no change in the proportion of the components in SrAl 12 O 19 :Eu 3+ due to the rise in the firing temperature was confirmed. The emission intensity of the crystalline SrAl 12 O 19 :Eu 3+ was lower than that of the amorphous SrAl 12 O 19 :Eu 3+ . This was because the excitation spectrum changed with the crystallization of SrAl 12 O 19 . These suggested that crystalline of SrAl 12 O 19 affected for fluorescence properties of the obtained phosphor.
