The effect of secondary bacterial infections of the bronchopulmonary system on patients with CF has been firmly established, and it has been possible to partially control these infections by aggressive bronchial drainage and energetic antibiotic therapy. The therapeutic effect of these modalities of treatment has not been evaluated quantitatively.
