This article presents the experience carried out in order to lift and make visible the teacher of Health Careers’ expected characteristics in the process of curriculum innovation at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Chile (2007‐2012). It starts with the proposal of a conceptual framework on which to base these features. For the framework’s development the experiences of various training moments in the Faculty were considered, as well as contributions of literature that were identified as relevant. It was possible to define seven teacher’s expected characteristics, the proposal was consulted and discussed
