Effect of Cross-Wind on High-Speed Vehicle Dynamic Derailment

2008
The cross-wind on a derailment accident still often happens, especially in coastal areas or Xinjiang of China. In order to investigate the effect of a cross-wind on railway vehicle derailment, a coupled vehicle-track dynamic model is put forward. In the model the vehicle and the structure under the rails are, respectively, modelled as a multi-body system, and the vehicle model is 35 degrees of freedom, the rail modeled with a Euler beam rested on the discrete sleepers. The lateral, vertical, and torsional deformations of the beam are taken into account. The aerodynamics, vehicle and track system dynamics are combined in research on the subject of this paper. Lift forces, lateral forces and a rolling movement on high-speed vehicles are investigated to study the effects of a cross-wind on aerodynamics. Through a detailed numerical analysis, derailment coefficient variations are obtained. The numerical results indicate that the cross-wind has a great influence on the vehicle running safety.
