Pharmaceutical application of cellulose derivatives

2020
Abstract Cellulose is a linear polysaccharide chain that contains β-1,4-linked D-glucose units. Nanocelluloses, which mostly comprise cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), cellulose nanofibrils, and bacterial cellulose, have been inspected and applied in numerous areas. Numerous modifications approach, namely, covalent, and noncovalent, have been established to functionalize CNC surface to improve their surface properties. Nanocellulose-based biomaterials and their use in biomedical fields such as medical implants, tissue engineering, wound healing/dressing, bone regeneration, cartilage renewal, orthodontic applications, drug delivery, etc., have been reviewed in the current chapter.
