COLLECTIVE ACTION FOR MANAGING COMMON PROPERTY RESOURCES IN CUDDALORE DISTRICT, TAMIL NADU

Common Property Resources are the important sources of subsistence, particularly during stress times and particularly for the rural poor. Population growth, industrialization, modernization, economic growth and soon have increased the pressure on the available public goods, which has led to depletion of public and environmental goods. As an alternative, communities have to work together for managing goods and services when their governments do not provide. From the results of the study, the collective action of the respondents for managing various public goods is quite appreciative. The village president and farmers club heads have worked collectively for the betterment of the community. The SHG members have to be mentioned for their involvement in managing the local level public goods. The people show more interest in managing the public goods wherein the government has to utilise the involvement of the public by providing financial assistance and training to managing the resources sustainably.
