Aerobic and Weightlifting Training Improves Lung Function and Mechanics and Pulmonary and Systemic Immune Response in Overweight Women

2020
It is well established that obesity impairs lung function and immune response. However, whether overweight affects lung function and mechanics and systemic and pulmonary immune response is unknown, as well as the effects of physical training on such responses. Thus, 17 overweight women (47.5±6.07 years old, BMI 27.92±1.63 kg/m2) were submitted to 12 weeks, 3x/week, 50min/session of aerobic (20min; 75% Max. HR) + resistance (30min; 75% 1MR) training. The results demonstrated that 12 weeks of combined training did not alter the lung function measured by spirometry, but improved the lung impedance (p 0.05), while reduced the levels of pro-fibrotic IGF-1 (p
