Contracted Microwave T-resonator for Permittivity Sensing Applications

2019
In this work, a contracted microwave T- resonator is investigated, and the simulations is performed in order to characterize the permittivity differences between the loaded materials for sensing applications. A highly concentrated electric field is generated which determines the location of the sample under test (SUT). The sensitivity of the proposed T-resonator is measured by the shift in resonant frequency of the transmission coefficient when SUT is overlaid on the T-resonator Sensor. The T-resonator is designed and fabricated on a 0.787 mm-thickness Roger 5880 substrate for the first resonant frequency to resonate at 4.2 GHz under unloaded conditions. Various standard dielectric of sample under test (SUT) are tested to validate the sensitivity which making it a promising low-cost, compactness in size, ease of fabrication and small SUT preparation for applications requiring novel sensing techniques in quality and control industries.
