Maxillary advancement as alternative tecnique in our OSAS cohort

2016
Introduction: Maxillary advancement (MA) is an effective alternative in the Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) treatment, available for selected patients in our hospital. The primary endpoint is to describe the obtained results Material and methods: Prospective study of OSAS patients who underwent MA between 2013-2015. The MA indication was determined by a multidisciplinary committee. PSG before and after MA Results: 20 patients, mean age 40975±8, BMI 26925±6. 10 patients CPAP-intolerant, 10 wanted alternative treatment. All presented craniofacial abnormalities susceptible of MA. Previous mean AHI 38±15 decreased to 11922±13965; previous minimum oxygen saturation 83%±0908 increased to 88%±0905. 18 had an AHI decreased to <50% of the initial one, and 12 achieved AHI<5. All improved sleepiness and snoring. A case of malocclusion, 1 intolerance to osteosynthesis material, 1 case of long-term condylar remodeling with mandibular height loss Conclusions: MA surgery is an effective treatment for OSAS in patients with retrognathia, micrognathia and retrusive profile In more than half of the cases, OSAS is completely resolved with clinical improvement in all of the cases.
