Inelastic scattering of. cap alpha. particles on light nuclei at P/sub. cap alpha. / = 7. 0 GeV/c

The inclusive inelastic scattering of ..cap alpha.. particles on /sup 2/H, /sup 3/He, and /sup 4/He has been measured at 7.0 GeV/c incident momentum, between 2/sup 0/ and 15/sup 0/ in the laboratory. The momentum spectra of the recoiling ..cap alpha.. particles are richly structured, suggesting that scattering takes place, at least partially, on nuclear substructures. The differential cross sections for the three reactions show a diffractive behavior comparable to that of the corresponding elastic processes.
